about us
For Dawn Walker, rokkwell’s viticulturalist and winemaker, going from a Producer of TV commercials to Winemaker happened all rather quickly. Whilst still working in advertising Dawn commenced a Bachelor of Science (Wine Science and Plant Agricultural Science) at the University of Southern Queensland through distance learning. In 2019 Dawn and her partner Jaymie took a leap of faith and relocated to Ballandean, on the Granite Belt, purchasing their own vineyard following Dawn being offered an Assistant Winemaker’s role at a local winery. Here she was able to start learning the ropes from one of the Granite Belt’s renowned Winemakers.
In late 2022 Dawn made the choice to devote her attention to the family property. where rokkwell was born and the first wines were produced onsite. This was a momentous occasion for both Dawn and Jaymie as their dream became a reality, only made possible through support (and lots of work!) from the extended family. Whilst rokkwell don’t currently have a cellar door open to the public, their online store allows customers to purchase from their suite of award winning wines with the vision of opening their cellar door late 2024.
rokkwell sits atop a hill in Ballandean overlooking vineyards, farmland, rocky outcrops and distant mountain ranges. In total, rokkwell has six acres of vineyard, including well established Nebbiolo, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Wanting to add some interesting Italian varieties to the fold, Arneis and Nero d’Avola were planted in 2022 with additional plantings of Teroldego and Garganega taking place in late 2023.
Continuing to expand its operation, in June 2023 rokkwell launched its guest accommodation with two studio cabins. Surrounded by vineyards, granite outcrops, natural bushland and grazing paddocks, rokkwell offers a perfect location for a true Granite Belt experience. Check availability for your stay.
